Overview

Dell positions the G5 5590 as an affordable gaming notebook, and this configuration focuses on practical Full HD gaming performance rather than premium extras. It combines an Intel Core i5-9300H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics, 8 GB RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. The result is a machine that is better suited to desk use than daily travel, but still covers work, media, and many modern games at 1920x1080.

Design and Build

The chassis combines plastic and metal, with a gaming-focused look that includes bold ventilation styling and a distinct hinge placement set slightly forward from the back edge. The keyboard deck also has a contrasting strip above the keys that gives the model a clear visual identity. At 2.68 kg, portability is not a strong point, so this laptop is best used as a semi-stationary system at home or in an office setup.

Display, Sound, and Webcam

The tested version uses a 15.6-inch matte IPS panel at 1920x1080 and 60 Hz. This is the entry display option in the lineup, but it is still practical for everyday use and gaming, especially with a reported brightness around 300 nits and strong contrast for this class. Color coverage is more limited, so it is less ideal for color-critical creative work. The front-positioned stereo speakers provide good loudness, while the 1 MP webcam is basic but usable for video calls.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The island-style keyboard includes a numpad and 2-level backlighting. Key travel is listed at 1.6 mm, which helps comfort during longer typing or gaming sessions. The touchpad is large and responsive, with clear left/right click zones, so routine navigation does not require an external mouse.

Performance and Connectivity

The Core i5-9300H and GeForce GTX 1650 pairing targets mainstream gaming and general productivity. In this configuration, 8 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD keep the system responsive for normal multitasking, while the dGPU handles many games at native Full HD with high settings. Port selection is a practical highlight: video outputs and Ethernet are joined by multiple USB ports, USB Type-C, and an SD card reader, making external displays and accessories easy to connect.

Battery Life

The 60 Wh battery is a strong point for this segment based on the source measurements: over seven hours in Wi-Fi use and over eight hours in video playback at medium brightness, while heavy load reduces runtime to around two and a half hours. Fan noise increases under sustained load, but a quieter profile can reduce noise at the cost of performance.

Verdict

Dell G5 5590 is a practical gaming notebook for buyers who want balanced Full HD performance, a comfortable keyboard, and rich connectivity without moving into premium price territory. Its main strengths are useful real-world performance and good battery results for the class. The main compromise is portability, along with display color coverage that is not aimed at professional color work.
