Overview

Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable is a compact 12.3-inch business 2-in-1 for frequent travel and meetings. It can work as a laptop with its keyboard cover or as a tablet with a kickstand. This configuration includes an Intel Core i5-1130G7 processor, 16 GB LPDDR4x memory, Intel Iris Xe graphics, and a 512 GB SSD. The source review positioned it as a premium business device in the upper price range.

Design and Build

The chassis uses magnesium alloy and keeps the classic ThinkPad business look in black with matte surfaces. The built-in kickstand opens to about 160 degrees, which helps when switching between desk work and tablet use. According to the source review, the device passed military-grade durability tests and felt solid in daily handling. The reported weight is 1.2 kg for the full setup, with the tablet part around 840 g.

Display, Audio, and Cameras

The 12.3-inch 3:2 display provides more vertical space for documents than a standard 16:9 panel. The source review reports up to 400 nits brightness, Gorilla Glass protection, and around 75% DCI-P3 coverage. Visual quality was described as strong out of the box. The included Lenovo Digital Pen supports 4096 pressure levels for notes and simple sketches. Speaker quality was acceptable for calls and casual media, but bass output was limited. Camera setup includes a 5 MP IR front camera with privacy shutter support for Windows Hello and an 8 MP rear camera for quick captures.

Keyboard and Input Experience

The detachable island-style keyboard has no numpad and keeps the ThinkPad TrackPoint in the center. Key travel is shallow, which is typical for this form factor, but the source review still found typing comfortable after short adaptation. Backlighting is included, which is not always standard on detachables. The touchpad is compact but responsive, supports multi-touch gestures, and sits next to a fingerprint scanner for fast login.

Performance, Ports, and Battery

With the Intel Core i5-1130G7 (4 cores, 8 threads) and integrated Iris Xe graphics, this model is designed for office workflows, browser-heavy multitasking, online meetings, and pen input work. It is not intended for modern high-load gaming or demanding professional GPU tasks. Physical connectivity is minimal but modern: USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 4/USB Type-C, combo audio jack, and Nano-SIM. Wireless support is broad, including Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and 4G LTE. The 42 Wh battery with fast charging delivered good runtimes in the source review, with around 11 hours in web browsing at moderate brightness and about 7 hours under mixed multitasking and communication use.

Verdict

Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable is a practical premium option for business users who need portability, pen support, and enterprise-oriented features in one device. Its key strengths are compact size, solid business security set, and stable everyday productivity performance. The main trade-offs are limited low-end speaker depth and the absence of a full-size USB-A port. For professionals who value mobility and flexible laptop-tablet usage, it remains a well-focused business machine.
