Summary: A practical 16.1-inch RedmiBook with strong value, decent performance, and clear compromises such as no webcam and no keyboard backlight.

Overview

The Xiaomi RedmiBook 16 is a 16.1-inch laptop aimed at users who want a large screen, solid everyday speed, and a lower price than premium competitors. In this tested configuration, it combines an Intel Core i7-1065G7, 16 GB RAM, a 512 GB SSD, and GeForce MX350 graphics. The main value is practical performance and good build quality for the segment, while the trade-offs are clear: no webcam, no keyboard backlight, and limited outdoor display comfort.

Design and Build

The chassis uses aluminum panels and keeps a clean, minimal look in dark gray. Build quality is one of the stronger points: the base is firm, the lid resists flex, and the hinge holds the screen steadily up to about 150 degrees. At 1.8 kg, it is still portable for a 16.1-inch model. Internal upgrades are limited: SSD and Wi-Fi module can be serviced, but RAM is soldered.

Display, Audio, and Webcam

The Full HD IPS panel offers nearly full sRGB coverage and no PWM flicker, which is good for long sessions and casual photo or video work. Contrast is strong, but brightness around 300 nits is only moderate, so direct sunlight use is not ideal. Speakers are loud enough for videos and music in the background, but bass is weak. There is no built-in webcam.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard layout is comfortable for typing and includes full-size key shapes for common keys, but it has no backlight. The touchpad is large and responsive, with good gesture support. A downside noted in use is a rattling feel when pressing the click area.

Performance and Thermals

For office apps, browsing, and typical daily multitasking, performance is solid. The GeForce MX350 helps in light content tasks and can run selected games at reduced settings, but this is not a gaming-focused machine. Thermal behavior is well controlled for the class, with stable surface temperatures and no major overheating issues reported under load.

Ports and Battery Life

Connectivity is practical for a mid-range laptop: USB-A and USB-C ports, HDMI, and a headset jack. One USB-C port supports charging and DisplayPort output. Wireless support includes Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0. Battery life is positioned as usable for daily work, with around 6-7 hours in web use and much shorter runtime in heavy workloads.

Verdict

Xiaomi RedmiBook 16 delivers good value for users who want a larger matte display, capable everyday hardware, and an all-metal design at a lower price point. The key compromises are the missing webcam, missing keyboard backlight, and limited upgrade path for memory. If those limits are acceptable, this model remains a practical budget-conscious option.
